That was down from 97 percent at last year s shareholders meeting, which took place just before Bayer took over Monsanto. Actually, it is something less than a swearing-in, since there is no oath of allegiance, more of a declaration 鈥?a promise to be good and to support the European Union through thick and thin. The declaration can be made in any of the 24 official languages of the EU, which means that Jean-Claude Juncker, the president of the Commission, a former prime minister of Luxembourg, making his declaration in Luxembourg, could not use his native tongue, since Luxembourgish is not an official language of the EU. Instead he had to choose which of his neighbours to favour. He opted for French. For the record: Marianne Thyssen made her declaration in Dutch; Phil Hogan made his in Irish; Karmenu Vella made his in Maltese.FacebookTwitterYouTubeApp StorePlay StorePolicyAgriculture and FoodCentral BankerCompetition and Industrial PolicyCybersecurity and Data ProtectionDefenseEnergy and ClimateEnergy and Climate UKEnergie et Climat FranceFinancial ServicesFinancial Servi stanley canada ces UKGesundheitHealth CareIndustrie HandelMobilityParis InfluenceSustainabilityTechnologyTech FranceTechnologie KITechnology UKTradeTrade UKNewslettersBerlin BulletinBerlin Pla stanley ca ybookBrussels PlaybookDimanchissimeEU In
